Review: Dance music rocks Parklife in the wet - Arts & Entertainment ...

PONCHOS were in vogue at this year?s Parklife festival, but no one let the rain spoil their fun.

Tens of thousands of punters took over Kippax Lake at Moore Park on Sunday to kick off the summer festival season with a line-up of dance music.

Organisers Fuzzy ensured it was a long weekend to remember with headliners like Simian Mobile Disco, Duck Sauce, Gossip, Digitalism, Lykke Li, Diplo, MSTRKRFT and Magnetic Man.

Dance/punk act Death From Above 1979 brought a rocky vibe to the day, playing hits like Black History Month, Blood on Our Hands and Romantic Rights from their 2004 album You?re a Woman, I?m a Machine.

The energy from the two-piece of Jesse F. Keeler (now in MSTRKRFT) on bass and Sebastien Grainger on drums and vocals was amazing, and the crowd lapped it up, seeing the band for the first time since they broke up in 2006.

Suave Frenchman S aacbastien Tellier was a highlight of the festival with the eclectic performer concentrating on the electronic side of his music.

He played many songs from his 2008 album Sexuality, with songs like Kilometer and Devine. An awe-inspiring moment came when he sat down at his keyboard and played his beautiful masterpiece La Ritournelle.

Gossip were an incredible live act, with lead singer Beth Ditto?s killer voice taking many punters by surprise, belting out tune after tune. The indie band with dance vibes really know how to engage a crowd. took snippets of Talking Head?s Punk?s
