AppPicker Writers Pay Tribute To Steve Jobs

Editor?s Note: AppPicker is lucky to have an awesome group of Writers who work hard every day to produce great content for you, our readers. They do their jobs because of their love for technology, Apple, writing and, not least, Steve Jobs.?Some of our Writers wanted to share their thoughts on what Apple and Steve Jobs have meant to their lives. Herewith are their reflections.

Chanti Burnette: ?In elementary school I cared a lot more about watching television than getting anywhere near a computer. At the time they seemed more like over-priced video game consoles than anything else, and Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel had already commandeered my afterschool attention. Moreover, my family was behind the times when it came to high-tech equipment, and the closest thing we had to a computer was my dad?s beloved WebTV (go ahead, cringe).

Fifth graders at my school were required to enter a district-wide science fair; it was pretty much the pinnacle of my academic endeavors at the time. Back then school projects were completed on over-sized cardboard displays or taped-together shoeboxes. My submission to the fair, a ?research project? on solar energy, was shaping up to be pretty forgettable. It was at that point that I had my first experience with an Apple Computer.

Our school?s ?computer lab? was a renovated storage closet next to the library, which housed a whopping three desktops. All three were iMacs. It was in this lab that I got my first taste of the genius that was Steve Jobs. I researched, designed, and wrote my entire science project on a Mac. The experience (and its accompanying second place trophy) solidified the company?s place in my personal tech universe.

In my experience, Apple products have always been vessels for creation, be it personal, professional, or academic. They give both the tech savvy and the hopeful rookies a chance to create something personal and powerful.

Thank you, Mr. Jobs, for helping me learn to create.?

Martin Hirshland: ?The inspirational success of visionary entrepreneur Steve Jobs has no doubt ensured his place in the history books and collective unconsciousness of our species. His innovations, from a young age, changed the world and how we as people interact with technology. His spirit lives on in every Macbook, iPod, iPad and iPhone everywhere. My thoughts go out to his family members and close friends who provided the supporting cast for his starring role. RIP Steve you will be missed!?

Jennifer Richardson: ?The passing of a life is always a tragic event. When a life so extraordinary as Steve Jobs? ends, the sadness left behind is immeasurable. Steve?s overwhelming success, as a creative mind and uncommonly ambitious entrepreneur, is a direct result of his passion for bringing his genius in the households and everyday lives of millions. His participation with Pixar will also never be forgotten. If not for his ability to see potential in a little computer animation company, my nephews would not be scooting little red race cars around the house saying, ?Kachow.? More than the lengthy list of contributions, Steve represents an era. In the way the Beatles revolutionized music, Winston Churchill impacted political leadership, Steve Jobs forever changed technology and the electronic industry, and we can only hope it remains changed in his absence.

Thank you, Steve.?

Gabe Shakour: ?Steve Jobs has inspired me to become a better person, do what I think is right, and push the limits. He always was so confident with whatever product Apple was releasing because he believed in it and believed in himself. Whenever I feel that my life is not going the way I want it to, I watch Steve Job?s 2005 Stanford commencement speech and it reminds me that I can do whatever I put my mind to. The world will miss him, his fans will miss him, and his friends will miss him. He was one of the greatest men to ever walk the earth. May he rest in peace.?
