Sacramento Press / Runway to Health & Beauty Expo 2012

Health and fitness, beauty, dance, fashion, entertainment and fun were all part of the Runway to Health & Beauty Expo held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Northeast.

The expo held on Sept. 8-9 was full of on-going events. Dance and fitness classes were presented and guests were invited to participate. Seminars and workshops also added to the health and fitness experience.

Attendees at the event had the opportunity to participate in fitness sessions led by leading fitness professionals. Fitness sessions were offered throughout the weekend from Macumba Fitness, Hip Hop U, Kick my Abs, Rhythmic Rootz Fitness, Samba Brazil, Salsa Sizzle, Flashback Funk, ZumbAtomic for Kids, Hot Hula, Sumba and others.

Vendors and sponsors occupied areas on the side and facing the stage. These organizations offered the latest products in dance and fitness and had many giveaway prizes for attendees.

The expo also included complimentary 30 minute to 1 hour Master Classes each day. Several fitness professionals, including featured Zumba presenter Raquel Call, came to the event from all over the world and the U.S. to illustrate different fitness dances.

Tanya Hernandez, CEO and Executive Producer of the event was on hand to meet guests and was seen busily working backstage, with designers, vendors, sponsors and making sure things went according to plan.

The busy entrepreneur, dance instructor and mother of two, Hernandez, created an event that not only included top fitness instructors but also involved representatives from the health, dance, beauty and wellness markets.

At a break in between acts on Sunday Hernandez addressed the audience saying, ?Good afternoon everybody. My name is Tanya from Teez Backstage Productions and I wanted to say thank you for coming out to our runway show. We have a very special show for you. The models have worked very hard and the designers have been sewing, sewing, sewing, sewing. We?re going to start the show off with a little hip hop number by Jeannie Riley she came to us from Florida she?s going to do a little hip hop number and then we?re going to go straight into our first line of clothing which will be, so you guys ready?

After the Hernandez introduction a series of performances ensued. .

The Paul Mitchell Hair Schools, besides doing hair and makeup for models involved in the fashion show, presented a hair show and competition event.

Other entertainment that followed the hair show and competition event included dancing by the Kundalini Bellydance Troupe.

A performance by the productive Fenix Drum and Dance group delighted the audience with their rhythmic beats, energetic dances and colorful outfits. The group recently performed at Fairytale Town and the Banana Festival as well as at other venues. Their African dances always include beautiful movements and colorful performances.

Fenix Drum and Dance also lead a conga style dance around the room and included audience participation.

Once the fashion show began Amanda Chan showcased an unusual but still dazzling line called ?Designing Eden.? Chan also exhibited her ?Feelings, Such Strong Feeling? line. ?Both Zubauen lines were strongly distinct in their own right.

Tonya Felish?s designs followed with several Bijouz outfits that catered to the full figured woman. Felish?s line is always well received as it showcases high fashion outfits available for the plus size woman.

The Camelia Williams line ?Cam-Marie? contained a series of elegant gowns. Other outfits showcased included cocktail dresses and colorful wear for going out on the town.

The Zarah?nized Wear line was well put together. The colorful and imaginative outfits were cheered on by guests and a girl?s fashion line went well when they were paired with a similar outfit for women.

The Zarah?nized Wear line is always shown in an effort to entertain as they walk and perform down the walkway. Their performance during the Runway to Health & Beauty Expo was well received with cheers and applause.

Virtuous Designs showcased a colorful and varied range of styles that had something for almost everyone in the audience.

Marrin Costello Designs paired up with Exception Designs to showcase a wonderful collection of outfits that can be worn for the office or an evening out. The detail and color of the designs made this a complimentary fashion showcase and exhibited outfits for every occasion.

Rhythmic Rootz also performed a special fitness fashion show that launched their fashion line. Rhythmic Rootz is principally a dance fitness program created by Hernandez. The fashion line allows Hernandez an outlet to use her fashion design creativity.

Designs by Utsav Gupta showcased some beautiful outfits. A risqu? red outfit was particularly stunning. The full length gown exposed the back of model Anjelica Victoria Ishima and exuded glamour as the dress was paraded on the walkway.

The last performance of the evening included a ?Miss Rare Bird? fashion challenge. Several teams accepted the challenge that was judged by Sacha Davis, Susan Pimenta and Bridg?tt Rex.

Criteria for judging included a runway performance, versatility, innovation, fashion and stage presentation. Contestants were initially given 15 days to design their compositions and hair and makeup was also a factor in the judging.

After the judges tabulated their scores awards were given to Robin?s Nest for third place, Cathy Rieger earned second and Kaddy Saephanh was the winner of the competition.

The winner received a hand-made crown created by Rex.

The Runway to Health & Beauty Expo brought together a team of fitness instructors, international presenters, designers, sponsors, exhibitors, models, fitness presenters, dancers, fashionistas and many performers to provide a fun filled entertainment package for every member of the family.

The event was full of activities and brought the latest products, classes and fitness experts to share their expertise. The two-day event was full of fun and entertaining activities that brought a health, beauty and fitness experience to visitors who attended this weekend event.

Hernandez? Teez Backstage Productions has created strong foundations for future shows. Volunteers, choreographers, performers and top fitness instructors put their talent and efforts together to produce a fun and balanced event.
