Junaid Khan credits Wasim Akram after his brilliant performance against India ? Cricket News Update
Pakistan?s left-arm fast bowler, Junaid Khan, has expressed that the legendary cricketer, Wasim Akram, has helped him develop the inswinging delivery, which was his premier weapon in the recently concluded limited-over series against India.
The 23-year-old player, who made his international debut during the tour of West Indies in 2011, is considered to be one of the most talented seamers in the country, having done tremendously well in international cricket on some occasions.
Junaid has always been quite impressive in Test cricket but the left-armer proved his credentials in One Day International cricket during the just-finished series against the arch-rivals, picking up eight wickets in just three matches. The cricketer from Matra troubled the Indian batsmen with his ability to move the ball both ways, dismissing Virat Kohli on three consecutive instances. It is a massive achievement, taking into account the right-hander?s past performances against the Green Shirts.
Taking the ball away from the right-handed batsmen has always been the forte of Junaid but the left-armer has recently learnt the trait of bringing the ball back in towards the pads, which helped him trouble the Men in Blue.
"I have been a bowler who has relied on bowling outswingers consistently at a good pace. It was Wasim bhai (Akram) who told me to develop the incoming delivery which would be my weapon against the Indian right-handers," said the young pacer.
Junaid understands that some of the Indian batsmen have the capacity to take the game away from the opposition if the bowlers are predictable, which is the reason why he needed some variations to make an impression against the world champions.
He added, "Once a guy like Virender Sehwag gauges the length of the away-going deliveries, you can be murdered. When I did my homework, I found out that Sehwag has a problem with the ball that comes in. I then started working hard on that incoming delivery with our chief bowling coach Mohammed Akram."
Pakistan?s next assignment in international cricket is the tour of South Africa, which is going to provide a huge opportunity to Junaid to deliver the goods in bowling friendly conditions and make a name for himself.
