More than 70 kids and teens showed up at the Niles Teen Center Thursday for Lights On Afterschool Day.?
Mark Williams, the Teen Center's director, joined with afterschool programs in 7,500 other communities nationwide, all part of the Afterschool Alliance, to stress the importance of providing supervised, constructive activities for young teens in the late afternoon hours.?

Total Learning Community, an afterschool program in East Maine Elementary District 63, brought about 70 children and several supervisors to the Niles Teen Center, which is located inside Golf Mill Shopping Center, for the event.
While there, they got to play air hockey, video games and other games, watch entertainment, nibble on free snacks and watch a dance demonstration by Wiktoria Worach and Patrick Kot of the Interclub Academy of Dance.?
Kids and parents could also visit display tables set up by the Niles Police Department, Niles Public Library, Rhythm School of Dance and Music,?Interclub Academy of Dance, Boy Scout Troop 175 ?and others. Niles Mayor Robert Callero also spoke to the crowd.
